Sasa Yoga, also written Shasha Yoga, is the yoga of a strong and prominent Saturn. Saturn is the planet of time, labour, discipline and the common people. When he is strong, the person can carry weight that others cannot. Sasa Yoga is one of the five Pancha Mahapurusha yogas.
Capricorn and Libra are movable signs and Aquarius is a fixed sign. So movable and fixed Lagnas can have Sasa Yoga, and dual Lagnas cannot.
| Lagna | Saturn's sign for the yoga | House | Saturn rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Libra / Capricorn | 7th / 10th | 10th and 11th |
| Cancer | Libra / Capricorn | 4th / 7th | 7th and 8th |
| Libra | Libra / Capricorn | 1st / 4th | 4th and 5th |
| Capricorn | Capricorn / Libra | 1st / 10th | 1st and 2nd |
| Taurus | Aquarius | 10th | 9th and 10th |
| Leo | Aquarius | 7th | 6th and 7th |
| Scorpio | Aquarius | 4th | 3rd and 4th |
| Aquarius | Aquarius | 1st | 1st and 12th |
For Taurus and Libra, Saturn rules a kendra and a trikona together and is the yogakaraka for the Lagna. Sasa Yoga formed by the yogakaraka is the most favourable form: Saturn in Aquarius in the 10th for Taurus, and Saturn exalted in the 1st or in Capricorn in the 4th for Libra.
The classical description is of a person who commands many people, heads a village or a town, is respected by workers and servants, is shrewd in judging others and is fond of forests, hills and quiet places. The stress is on authority over people and on a practical, unsentimental mind.
In present-day terms:
Saturn's strength is best used with fairness. He is the planet of justice as well as of authority, and those under the person's charge are also Saturn's people.
Take a Taurus Lagna with Saturn at 10° Aquarius.
Sasa Yoga is formed by the yogakaraka in the house of career. The lord of fortune and the lord of work are the same planet, and he sits in his own 10th house. This is a strong indication of a responsible position reached through consistent effort. From the 10th, Saturn aspects the 12th, the 4th and the 7th houses, so matters of home and marriage move at Saturn's steady pace too.
Sasa Yoga forms when Saturn is in Capricorn, Aquarius or Libra in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house from the Lagna. Movable and fixed Lagnas can have it. It gives authority, endurance and the ability to manage people and large tasks. It is strongest when Saturn is the yogakaraka, as for Taurus and Libra, and its results come slowly and stay.
Sasa Yoga forms when Saturn is in Capricorn, Aquarius or Libra and that sign is the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house from the Lagna.
The movable Lagnas (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) and the fixed Lagnas (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). The dual Lagnas Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces cannot have it.
Authority that comes through patience and steady work: charge of many people, a role in administration or organisation, and the endurance to carry long responsibilities.
Usually not. Saturn is a slow planet, and his yogas tend to mature with age and experience. The results are clearest in the Saturn dasha and after the mid thirties.
