Vasumathi yoga is one of the classical wealth (Dhana) yogas. Vasu means wealth, and a person with this yoga is described as one who keeps growing in prosperity, mostly through their own effort. It is searched often, especially in Tamil as Vasumathi Yogam, and it is easy to check once you know the upachaya houses.
Upachaya means growth or increase. Four houses carry this name:
| House | Theme | Why it grows |
|---|---|---|
| 3rd | Effort, courage, skills, communication | Skills improve with practice |
| 6th | Work, service, competition, overcoming obstacles | Strength grows by facing problems |
| 10th | Career, actions, status | Position rises over years |
| 11th | Gains, income, networks, fulfilment of wishes | Gains accumulate |
Malefics are classically good in these houses because their hard energy turns into effort. Benefics there give gentler, steadier growth.
Vasumathi yoga forms when the natural benefics Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are in the upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) counted from the Lagna or from the Moon.
The benefics can be spread across the four houses in any way.
Taurus Lagna. The upachayas are Cancer (3rd), Libra (6th), Aquarius (10th) and Pisces (11th).
All three benefics occupy upachaya houses from the Lagna: a full Vasumathi yoga, made stronger by two exalted benefics. The 11th house Venus is also the Lagna lord here, joining the self with gains.
(The planets also have to be astronomically possible: Mercury in Aquarius and Venus in Pisces, with the Sun near them, works; Mercury and Venus always stay close to the Sun.)
Vasumathi is a yoga of growth over time, not sudden wealth:
Because the upachayas improve with age, the results are usually clearer from the middle of life onward.
Scorpio Lagna, Moon in Virgo. From the Lagna the upachayas are Capricorn, Aries, Leo and Virgo. Jupiter is in Virgo (11th from the Lagna) and Mercury in Leo (10th). Venus is in Cancer (9th), not an upachaya.
Reading: steady growth in career and income through skill (Mercury in the 10th) and wise contacts (Jupiter in the 11th).
Vasumathi yoga forms when Jupiter, Venus and Mercury occupy the upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) from the Lagna or the Moon. All three give the full form; one or two give a partial form. It promises wealth that grows with effort and time. Judge it by dignity, combustion, the 2nd and 11th lords and the running dasa.
Vasumathi yoga forms when the natural benefics Jupiter, Venus and Mercury occupy the upachaya houses, the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th, counted from the Lagna or from the Moon. Vasu means wealth; the yoga is linked with steady, self-made prosperity.
Upachaya means growth. The 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses are called upachaya because the matters they rule improve with time and effort.
The full classical form needs all the benefics there. With one or two, astrologers read a partial form with smaller but still useful results.
Either. Phaladeepika counts it from the Lagna or the Moon. When it holds from both, the yoga is strongest.
