Basis of Pancha Bhuta (Five Elements) Porutham

Pancha Bhuta Porutham is based on the traditional concept of the five fundamental elements, known as the Pancha Bhutas. These five elements are Prithvi (Earth), Apas (Water), Tejas (Fire), Vayu (Air), and Akasha (Ether/Space).

In this system, the 27 Nakshatras are classified under these five elemental groups. The following table provides the Nakshatra-wise classification of the Pancha Bhutas.

How to Identify the Pancha Bhuta

To determine the elemental group associated with a Nakshatra, locate the Nakshatra in the classification table. The column in which it appears identifies its corresponding Bhuta or element.

For example, Ashwini belongs to Prithvi (Earth), Ardra belongs to Apas (Water), and Uttara Phalguni belongs to Tejas (Fire). Likewise, Jyeshtha is classified under Vayu (Air), while Dhanishta is classified under Akasha (Ether/Space).
