Sabtharishi Nadi-Kanya Lagna-Chart 1-The Merchants Karma and Two Marriages

The Soul’s Journey Through Karma and Liberation

(Atri Maharishi Nadi Reading, English rendering and Sithars Astrology commentary)

(Based on the 1961 Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna manuscript archived at Saptarisi Nadi Kanya Lagnam 1961. Rendered and interpreted by Sithars Astrology for educational and spiritual understanding.)

Among the many treasures of Nadi literature, the Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna stands out for the extraordinary precision with which Sage Atri reveals a soul’s story-its rise, fall, repentance, and release.
Each verse is both a record and a mirror: it describes the native’s chart while teaching how karma ripens across births.

What follows preserves the ancient tone of the palm-leaf while adding the Sithars Astrology version-an interpretive layer that connects every planetary statement to human experience.
This is not a rewriting of the original verses but a revealed commentary that continues their purpose: to awaken understanding rather than to predict fate.

The Line of Revelation

The reading begins when Parvati Devi asks Atri Maharishi to describe the destiny of a soul born under Kanya Lagna.

From the opening pages the sage traces the roots of karma-how the father’s conduct, the son’s temperament, and the chain of marriages are all woven into a single lesson.

The story unfolds across five stages.

Part 1 - The Father’s Karma
Part 2 - The Dual Marriage
Part 3 - The Past-Life Cause
Part 4 - Death and Rebirth
Part 5 - The Final Passage

Part 1 - The Father’s Karma

The father is depicted as truthful, patient, and honourable, yet denied ancestral wealth.
He earns through his wife’s family, works upon the land, and supports the poor.
Though dark and slender, his mind is luminous.
He teaches the child endurance and integrity-virtues greater than inheritance.

His chart shows Saturn in the ninth, Sun and Mercury in the eighth, and Moon in Cancer-signs of labour and delayed fortune balanced by deep faith.

Through toil and humility he becomes a living sermon that truth never dies with loss.

The Revelation Begins

(Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna 1961, Page 40 onward)

Theme: Birthplace, Family Lineage & Father’s Nature

Literal Translation

When Parvati Devi humbly asked Atri Maharishi about a soul born under Kanya Lagna, he began describing the circumstances of birth:

“In the south-facing street stands the house;
to the west is the temple of Māri Amman;
in the north-west corner, the shrine of Vinayaka and another Māri Amman;
nearby, a fertile pond full of life.
The child is a male, healthy and prosperous, born in a small but flourishing village.”

Atri Maharishi continues:

“In the northern direction stands a temple of Śiva and Kālī, ever-growing;
there lies a cattle-pen and another temple beside it;
in the south there are irrigation fields and a flowing canal.
The family belongs to the Vēḷāḷa (Vaishya-farmer) lineage.”

Then the sage adds:
“This birth is under Kanya Lagna.
The Sun, Mercury, and Venus are in Aries;
Saturn in Taurus; Jupiter in Leo;
Mars and Ketu in Pisces;
Rahu in Virgo; Moon in Cancer.
This is the planetary frame of this birth.”

Mars, Ketu
(Pisces)
Sun, Mercury,
Venus (Aries)
Saturn
(Taurus)
Moon
(Gemini)

Jupiter
(Leo)

(Scorpio)

Asc

He explains that both Mercury and Venus are combust (asthangata) with the Sun, indicating that the father’s life will be connected to his mother’s support, and the father’s livelihood will arise through maternal resources.

Sithars Astrology Version

In the divine dialogue between Parvati Devi and Atri Maharishi, the sage unveils a vision of a humble yet auspicious birthplace.

The child’s house faces south, symbolizing karmic purification through service.

To the west, the presence of Māri Amman signifies the protection of feminine energy and purification through rain and compassion.

The north-west temples of Vinayaka and Māri Amman reveal the dual blessings of wisdom and endurance, while the nearby pond indicates abundance and spiritual fertility.

Atri Maharishi identifies the soul as a male born in a Vēḷāḷa lineage, blessed with prosperity, patience, and a dharmic temperament.

His horoscope - Kanya Lagna, Sun + Mercury + Venus in Aries, Jupiter in Leo, Saturn in Taurus, Mars + Ketu in Pisces, Rahu in Virgo, Moon + Saturn aspect in Cancer - forms a powerful Parivartana between Mercury (Lagna lord) and Mars (7th lord), showing a life balanced between intellect and action, but shadowed by karmic dualities from previous births.

The sage observes that the father’s livelihood will arise through the mother’s influence, suggesting that maternal blessings and inherited property guide the family’s fortune.

Astrological and Karmic Interpretation

Spiritual Reflection & Remedy (Sithars Astrology Note)

The chart reveals that this soul is born in a village where devotion, duty, and destiny intertwine.

The presence of twin Māri Amman temples marks protection through surrender, suggesting that his karmic purification will come by serving the divine feminine energy - particularly through acts of water, compassion, and livelihood support.

Remedy Insight: Regular worship of Vinayaka and Māri Amman, offering curd-rice or water to travellers, and maintaining truth in speech will neutralize the fiery 7th-house karma from Mars-Ketu.

Part 2 - The Dual Marriage

At eighteen the native marries a fair, intelligent woman from the north-east. She is quick in temper but pure in heart. Ketu and Mars in the seventh foretell that her time will be short. In the twenty-seventh year, during Saturn dasa and Ketu bhukti, she departs through illness while with child.

A second marriage soon follows; not born of desire but of destiny. The two unions are the echo of earlier lives, each spouse a soul returning to complete unfinished compassion.

The chart shows Venus combust, Mars - Ketu conjunction, and Jupiter’s blessing-confirming that separation was decreed for purification, not punishment.

The Father’s Karma & The Native’s Character

(Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna, pp. 44 - 47)

Literal Translation

Atri Maharishi said to Parvati Devi:

“The father is tall, slender, and dark-complexioned.
He is free from deceit, clever in thought, patient, and without anger.
He builds a fine house, lives with dignity, and is learned.
He gains honour through his relatives,
and his livelihood arises through his mother’s aid.”

The sage further adds:

“He will not inherit his father’s property.
He gains wealth from his mother’s side - from his father-in-law.
He helps the poor and listens to the words of great ones.
He earns through agriculture and lives with compassion.”

Explaining the planetary cause:

“Since Saturn is placed in the ninth house and the Sun (the father’s significator) is aspected by malefics,
the father will not gain his paternal wealth.
Yet the Moon (denoting maternal lineage) is strong, hence maternal help saves him.”

Sithars Astrology Version

Atri Maharishi paints the image of a father who is honourable but tested by karma.

Born with no inheritance, he earns through the virtue of his wife’s family - a lesson in humility and service.

He is a person of truth, patience, and measured speech. Though his body appears thin and dark, his mind is bright with reason.

He stands for those who suffer, offering help and shelter.
He finds peace in the soil - the fields that feed him also purify his karma.

In every sense, he lives as a householder-sage, balancing duty and detachment.
Through him, the child inherits not land or gold, but a legacy of truth and endurance.

Astrological and Karmic Interpretation

Aspect
Indication
Saturn in 9th (Rishabha)
Father’s fortunes arise slowly; life of labour and faith.
Sun + Mercury + Venus in 8th (Aries)
Hidden career path linked to service and maternal aid.
Moon in Cancer (11th from father)
Gains through maternal relations and emotional security.
Mars + Ketu in Pisces (7th)
Dual marriage karma and devotional redirection through service.
Jupiter in Leo aspecting Lagna
Blessing of wisdom and moral clarity despite worldly losses.

The father serves as the mirror of ancestral karma: his inability to inherit represents renunciation of past ego attachments; his agricultural life symbolises repayment to the Earth for past neglect.

Spiritual Reflection & Remedy (Sithars Astrology Note)

The father’s life in this Nadi is a teaching on dharma through effort.
Even when ancestral wealth is lost, the soul retains its honour through righteous deeds.

Remedy Insight:

  • Offer water to farmers and feed cows on Saturdays to honour the 9th-house Saturn.
  • Light a lamp to the Sun on Sundays to soften the 8th-house affliction.
  • Respect mother’s family and maternal elders - they are the channel of divine support.

Part 3 - The Past-Life Cause

In a previous birth the native was a prosperous merchant skilled in mantra and worship of Māri and Pidaari Amman.
But power eclipsed wisdom.
Spurned by a Brahmin maiden, he cast a spirit to torment her; she died.

Later he lived with his wife’s sister, who too perished by his error.
Two acts, two deaths-hence the double marriage in this life.
The sins ripened as widowhood and remorse, forcing the soul to taste the pain it once caused.
Yet through this suffering the heart awakens; guilt becomes gratitude.

The Two Marriages and the Shadow of Past Life Karma

(Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna 1961, pp. 48-51)

Literal Translation

Atri Maharishi tells Parvati Devi:

“The native marries at the age of eighteen.
His wife comes from the north-eastern direction,
fair and radiant, but with a sharp temper.
She walks swiftly, speaks little, and hides her feelings.”

He adds:

“The first wife has a medium lifespan.
A second marriage will occur,
for Ketu and Mars reside in the seventh house,
and Venus, lord of the spouse, is combust and weak.”

When Parvati asks, “What causes two marriages?”,

Atri explains:

“Because of Ketu and Mars occupying the 7th,
and Venus, the significator of wife, being burned by the Sun,
the first wife will pass away due to illness during her pregnancy.
The second wife will join him soon after.”

He further declares:

“The first wife dies in the 27th year of the native,
during Saturn Mahadasha and Ketu Bhukti.”

Sithars Astrology Version

Atri Maharishi reveals the bittersweet destiny written for the native:

At the age of eighteen, destiny brings his first marriage - a woman of charm and grace, born under auspicious lineage from the north-east direction.

Yet beneath that union lies an unhealed karmic echo.

She is strong-willed, poised, but fiery. Her beauty carries the shadow of brief time - a soul who must repay and depart early.

When the Saturn Dasha - Ketu Bhukti unfolds at the age of twenty-seven, her health weakens.

The sage says: “She departs by the will of karma, and the second wife enters, continuing the soul’s destined journey.”

This is not a curse, but a continuation of the soul’s unfinished promise from an earlier life.

The first wife’s death during pregnancy symbolises karmic release from an act of sorrow committed in the past birth.

Past Life Revelation (As told by Atri Maharishi)

In the previous birth, the native was a merchant by caste, living in a prosperous town to the north.
He was religious, worshipping Pidaari Amman and Māri Amman, and learned in occult practices.
However, he misused his mantra powers:
“He cast a spirit (śūniyam) on a Brahmin’s daughter who rejected his love.
The girl suffered and died.
Later, he also consorted with his deceased wife’s sister and caused her death by mistake.”
These two sins, says the sage, created the dual marriage karma (Dwi-Bharya Yoga) and the early death of the first wife.

Astrological and Karmic Interpretation

Aspect Indication
Ketu + Mars in 7th Dual marriage or widowhood yoga; partner with karmic connection from past life.
Venus combust in Aries (8th) Loss of spouse through health or reproductive complication.
Saturn Dasha - Ketu Bhukti at 27 Activation of 7th house karma; death or separation.
Jupiter aspect on 7th Immediate remarriage due to karmic continuation.
Moon in Cancer Emotional endurance and capacity for healing after loss.

This chart clearly maps a marital karmic repayment - not as punishment, but as purification.

Phaladeepika, Ch. 10 v. 17

Spiritual Reflection & Sithars Astrology Commentary

The Nadi reveals how the divine balances action and consequence:
What was once an act of passion in ignorance becomes, in another life, a lesson in compassion through loss.

The death of the first wife is the soul’s purification - a necessary dissolution of the previous sin.
Her soul, freed by suffering, returns as a guardian through the second union.

Remedy Insight:
  • Perform Sumangali Pooja and offer food to widows every year on the 27th birthday nakshatra.
  • On Fridays, light two lamps - one for the departed partner’s soul and another for Venus, seeking harmony and forgiveness.
  • Worship of Māri Amman and Durga Devi reduces marital karmic burdens.
  • Chanting Sree Sooktham or Soundarya Lahari brings balance to Venus-related debts.

Esoteric Meaning (Sithars Astrology Note)

This portion of the Nadi is not about fate but about awakening.

When the first marriage dies, the ego dies with it; when the second begins, the soul rediscovers love beyond attachment.

The Mars-Ketu combination teaches that only through surrender can the sacred feminine be honoured.

Part 4 - Death and Rebirth

In the prior incarnation he died in poverty, conscious of his wrongs.

At Brahma’s decree he was reborn in Kanya Lagna to work upon the earth, to serve instead of rule, to heal what he had harmed.

Every planet in his present chart narrates this redemption:
- Mars - Ketu in the seventh, cleansing through relationship;
- Venus combust, learning detachment;
- Saturn in the ninth, labour as penance;
- Jupiter aspecting Lagna, divine mercy through knowledge.

The sage explains that each field he tills, each life he aids, lightens the weight of those old mistakes.

The farmer is the transformed magician; his mantra now is labour done in silence.

The Soul’s Journey: Death, Karmic Judgement & Rebirth under Kanya Lagna

(Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna 1961, pp. 52-55)

Literal Translation

Atri Maharishi said to Parvati Devi:

“In his former birth, the native was a prosperous merchant in a northern town.
He was learned in mantra and tantra, worshipping Pidaari Amman and Māri Amman.
Yet by his own desire, he used his powers wrongly.”

“He placed a spirit upon a Brahmin maiden who refused his love.
The maiden fell ill, lost appetite, and died.
Later, he lived with his deceased wife’s sister, who too conceived and perished through his act.”

The sage continues:

“Burdened by these two sins, the soul suffered poverty and distress at the end of that birth.
When the time came, he died in misery and was summoned before Brahma.”

“By Brahma’s decree, he was reborn under Kanya Lagna -
To experience dual marriage, to serve through agriculture, and to purify his heart through compassion.”

Sithars Astrology Version

Atri Maharishi’s words pierce through the veil of lifetimes -
revealing how lust misused in power becomes the seed of sorrow,
and how divine grace transforms that sorrow into service.

In his past birth, the native was a wealthy Vaishya merchant, well-versed in occult arts.
Though religious, he lacked inner discipline.
His passion turned into possession - an attachment to a Brahmin girl who refused him.
His ego, wounded by rejection, invoked dark forces.

The girl’s suffering became the cause of his downfall.
Later, he repeated the sin - this time in attachment to his wife’s sister -
thus doubling the karmic debt (Dwi-Paapa Yoga).

When his final moments came, poverty and guilt weighed upon him.
He died in a lonely state, realizing his misuse of divine energy.

At the gates of the subtle world, Brahma Himself decreed:

“You shall be reborn in a humble village, under Kanya Lagna.
You will marry twice - not for pleasure, but to redeem two souls you have wronged.
You shall work upon the land, for the Earth alone will teach you humility.
Only through compassion shall your liberation begin.”

Thus, the soul took birth again - purified by suffering, sanctified by service.

Astrological & Karmic Interpretation

Aspect
Karmic Indication
Kanya Lagna
Rebirth through service and purification.
Mars + Ketu in 7th (Pisces)
Repetition of past-life marital karma, now turned into repentance.
Venus combust + Sun in Aries (8th)
Unfinished desire from prior life leading to widowhood and karmic cleansing.
Saturn in 9th (Taurus)
The burden of ancestral karma carried forward; to be worked through toil.
Jupiter in Leo (11th)
Grace from saints and spiritual associations in this life.
Moon in Cancer
Emotional redemption through family bonds and maternal love.

Here, the 7th-8th-9th houses act as karmic bridges:
the 7th carries the deed (relationship sin),
the 8th gives its consequence (loss and death),
the 9th grants its redemption (learning through patience and dharma).

Spiritual Reflection (Sithars Astrology Interpretation)

This Nadi portion beautifully illustrates the law of Divine Balance.
No soul is eternally condemned - only refined.
Every mistake becomes a teacher, every loss a path to grace.

The native’s rebirth as a farmer is not punishment but sādhanā -
the act of repaying the Earth for energies misused.
Through work, devotion, and humility, the soul regains its original purity.

“What was once done with ego will now be done with surrender.”
- Sithars Astrology, Karma Commentary

Remedy Insights from Sithars Lineage

Karmic Cleansing Path:

  1. For Past-Life Love Karma:
    • Recite Sundara Kandam on Tuesdays.
    • Light a ghee lamp for Durga Devi on Fridays, praying for emotional purity.
  2. For Spirit-related Karma:
    • Perform Amavasya Tarpanam and feed crows or fish regularly.
    • Offer saltless food to children or devotees of Mari Amman.
  3. For Redemption through Service:
    • Donate to support childbirth care or women’s health causes - symbolic healing for both departed wives.
    • Engage in Annadhanam during Chitra Pournami.
These acts, when done with sincerity, are said to dissolve karmic residues without the need for astrological modification.

The Soul’s Message (Closing Reflection)

In the silence of this prophecy, Atri Maharishi reminds:

“When power serves desire, it becomes bondage.
When power serves compassion, it becomes liberation.”

Thus, the soul that once used mantra for harm is reborn to use devotion for healing.
His fields, his family, his losses - all are instruments of moksha.

Part 5 - The Final Passage

At sixty-three, in the month of Thai, under the bright Dwadashi, the body yields to nerve weakness.
The death is calm, the face serene.
He is reborn almost immediately in Kanchipuram, in a Brahmin family of the Yajur Veda.
In that life he serves the temple and the king, teaches dharma, and departs in peace.

The soul that once bound itself by desire now walks free through service.
The journey from merchant to devotee, from passion to purity, is complete.

Death, Next Birth, and the Liberation Path of the Soul

(Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna 1961, pp. 56-60)

Literal Translation

Atri Maharishi said to Parvati Devi:

“At the age of sixty-three, in the Tamil month of Thai,
under the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha),
on the twelfth lunar day (Dwadashi),
the native departs from his body.

The cause will be illness of the body’s channels - Soola Roga (nerve or inflammation).”

“After death, he will not wander long in the astral plane.
He will be reborn again in Kanchipuram,
in a Brahmin family belonging to the Shukla Yajurveda lineage.”

“In that next birth, he shall serve the king,
live a prosperous life,
have wife and children,
and die peacefully - liberated from material sorrow.”

“He shall be known for charity, learning, and truth.
His past sins will no longer cling to him,
for he will have atoned through faith and service.”

Sithars Astrology Version

Atri Maharishi’s revelation reaches its peaceful summit.
The same soul that once misused mantra power,
and later atoned through suffering and service,
now receives its final human rebirth - not as a sinner, but as a seeker.

At the age of sixty-three, during the month of Thai,
under Dwadashi Tithi,
his body succumbs to nerve weakness and fever - the last residue of past-life imbalance.

But his spirit, cleansed of all bitterness, rises effortlessly.
No painful wandering, no delay in passage - for he has already met his debts in life.
He takes birth again in Kanchipuram,
as a learned Brahmin of the Yajurveda line,
devoted to spiritual learning and temple service.

This time, the soul returns not to repay, but to serve and elevate others.
His work for temples, his dharma, and his generosity
mark the beginning of moksha through karma itself.

Spiritual Reflection - The Closing Teaching of Atri Maharishi

Atri Maharishi turns to Parvati and says:

“The river of karma may twist and turn,
but it always flows back to the ocean of truth.”

The native’s life is proof that even the gravest misdeeds can be transformed through awareness and devotion.

His suffering was not divine punishment, but divine compassion -
a remedial design to lead him from power to purity.

By the end of this life, his heart has become light, forgiving, and fearless.
He dies not in guilt but in gratitude.

Sithars Astrology Commentary & Integration

The Sithars always taught:

“To burn karma, one must live through it - not escape it.”

This Nadi record validates that principle completely.

It shows the transition from occult misuse (Ketu-Mars) to devotional realization (Jupiter-Moon).

In astrological terms, this is a Karma-to-Dharma Evolution:

Birth
Soul’s Primary Motive
Correction Method
Previous Birth
Desire, misuse of energy
Suffering through death of others
Present Birth
Repentance, humility
Service and devotion
Next Birth
Dharma & Wisdom
Teaching and spiritual guidance

Such progression is rare - it reflects the final curve before moksha.

Remedies (as recorded in Nadi & confirmed by Sithar Traditions)

  1. Moksha-oriented remedies for this soul-type (Ketu-Mercury pattern):
    • Recite Sri Rudram or Ketu Gayatri on Amavasya days.
    • Observe fasting or light food during Thai Dwadashi as an annual remembrance.
  2. Charity-based healing:
    • Donate to Veda Pāṭhaśālās (Vedic schools) - symbolic repayment of misused mantra.
    • Offer annadhanam at Mari Amman or Durga temples.
  3. Temple karma connection:
    • Visit Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal temple once in lifetime (or annually if possible).
    • Perform Deepa Dānam (lamp offering) for the liberation of the ancestral line.

Reflection

“The river of karma twists, yet always returns to the ocean of truth.
The one who erred in passion becomes the one who redeems through compassion.”

Sithars Astrology sees in this reading a perfect illustration of Karma → Dharma → Moksha.

The horoscope is not a sentence but a syllabus.
Every adversity is a lesson shaped by divine patience.

Closing Thought

What began as the story of a man and his marriages ends as the pilgrimage of a soul through lifetimes.
When power is surrendered to purpose, the fire of karma turns into the light of wisdom.
Thus ends the Sabtharishi Nadi - Kanya Lagna revelation as preserved in the manuscripts of Sage Atri and retold through the vision of Sithars Astrology.
